green
Green has become an abstract term for all things environmentally friendly like reducing a dependency on carbon based products being burned such as oil, coal, or wood. Ironically the groups that create energy and pollution burning these materials are making large amounts of green by another definition. Popular greening techniques depend on new materials and products that collect existing "clean" energy in the form of wind, sun, and hydraulic water systems. Each system involves continued manufacturing and construction, which are two of the largest defined users of carbon based energy systems and therefore large contributors to the toxins and pollutants released and remaining as a result. Green and/or sustainable systems are considered progressive these days yet they are actually new forms of economic growth that inevitably require manufacturing and construction which leads us back to concerns about carbon based energy systems and their toxic remains which may look green or black at times.
Green appears in many forms, from smog to frogs and Prius to fungus. There is no natural food coloring of a green variety that is considered safe for human consumption; however broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, olives, and avocados are generally considered good for human health. Mint, rosemary, sage, and thyme are aromatic flavorful and green. Other green foods are limes and beans, and even lima beans. Lettuce, chard, and kale can be leafy while green. Grapes, kiwis, pears and apples are green with fruity flavors.
On a color wheel red is the complementary color to green, while green is made from combining yellow and blue. In some languages green is the same word as black. People with green names include kelly, fern, olive, jade, and hunter among others. Green appears as verde granite of the igneous form underground. We can find green thumbs, mountains, jeans, teas, acres, parties, bay, cards, eggs and ham, while we work for greenbacks, yet lobby for green energy solutions. At home we waste water from a green garden hose growing green grass and then use green painted riding mowers to cut and trim it just to keep up with the neighbors who drive "green" electric cars which have to be manufactured with new advanced batteries that are not easily disposed of and yet go green is the fad of the moment.....go figure!
